Is .mac a (total) wate of money?
Last week, in a slightly ill-advised bout of online spending, I went and got me a dot mac account. I think I was still buzzing off my newly purchased Powerbook (no, not the intel one stupid!). Anyways, I've now got said account but I'm really not sure that I'll use it in any great capacity. At least not to justify the 60-odd quid that it cost. So, what can I now do that I couldn't do before?. Well...I can use Apple's Iweb software that comes bundled with Tiger (not half as good as dreamweaver on first impression), I now get a swanky .mac email address (yawn) I get some virtual I disk space (doesn't like shunting mp3's around does it?) and finally I get some very swift publish-to-web functionality straight from Garageband ( actually, this is cool but when was the last time I did a podcast). I'm gonna sleep on it but if something doesn't convince me to hang on to.mac by noon tommorow that cash is going right back in the account.
You're alive! (He said ironically.... I haven't p'casted in, what, 6 months? 7? This grad school thing is killing me. Dissertation, politics, dissertation, politics, beer, repeat. I'm hoping that changes soon, though....)
I pay for .Mac rather reluctantly myself. To me, it's only worth the cash since I spend 16 hours a day in front of a computer - well, two computers, 10+ hours on my iBook at school and the rest on my iMac at home. My $100/year buys me the automatic sync between both computers and .Mac, so whether I add a school seminar to my schedule from my iBook or a happy hour from my iMac, they both end up on my iPod (and the internet) so I know where I'm going. Same with addresses and bookmarks. But other than that? Crap. I never use my .Mac email account, I don't publish squat to my .Mac homepage, I don't use Backup...
Anyway, pulled down your bookmark out of boredom. There you are. I'll be back, too.

Hey Shel, very good to here from you!. yes still alive ( which is more than can be said for this blog at the moment as my credit card has just backfired) anyways, been thinking of getting back into the podcast thing. well, now i'm a fully paid up .mac member!. Hope all cool with the studies. The pain will all be worth it! I'm torn between a) killing this blog and going fully .mac b) going back to my blogger blog. (Now four years old) or c) not blogging / going out and getting fresh air. decisions, decisions....
